However I can say that I prefer the ending as opening, it’s lyrics represent perfectly the arc’s plot and the scenes show the feelings and pain of all the characters, even Naki’s lost (1:42).

In my quest, Tokyo Ghoul Season 2 opening appeared as much as the money they saved on making it, but it still manages the show the feelings of the protagonist, his transformation and emptiness, of course they could do the same thing in 5 seconds like many openings do, but I can’t say that it doesn’t accomplish it’s mission. While writing this I looked for the worst anime openings I could find to show an example of what I think is like a downside to the series, and I found many bad ones, special mention to the naruto german one but I think that’s totally unrelated to this topic, however it shows a great betrayal. But details are important too, it’s fine, the music can help to set the mood easily, but as an audiovisual media they have to, obviously, show something and not just throw some random footage to the screen, of course, they can, but would that make a great opening?. Then a friend just started to tell me about the details in some openings, then I started to notice them and it made a great difference in my enjoyment, and I’m not just talking about that one and half minute.Īs I said before I believe that the job an opening has to accomplish is to set the mood for the show, and the way they do varies greatly among genres, subgenres, arcs, etc. Initially, I didn’t think too much about if an opening was good or bad for the series, honestly I just cared about the hype I got from them, but of course, many animes like comedy ones are not centered around making you get excited about what you’re going to watch.

What makes a good anime opening? Is it the song? What characteristic makes great your favorite opening? I’m the kind of guy that watches openings many times, I believe that they are an important part integrated to the series themselves and they have to share the weight of the series mood and somehow prepare the spectator.
